  A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini has got to be one of the most devastating stories I've ever read. This book has made me bawl so hard last night, I had to tell myself to catch and steady my breathing. It tell tales the unfortunate circumstances of innocent individuals living in a warfare zone in Afghanistan. I felt so bad for what Mariam and Laila has gone through in their lives, how they simply wanted to attain happiness in their lives. Being a woman in Afghanistan that they are, the story unfolds the inequality and injustice that this specific gender has to go through. I extremely felt bad for Mariam the most, who never wanted anything but a normal life, and instead experienced unfairness and sadness since she was a little kid. Despite the sad and difficult life that Mariam had, she was still kind and selfless to those that she loved.
