The Absolute True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie

Sherman Alexie's book "The Absolute True Diary of a Part-Time Indian" is one of the most memorable and funniest book I've ever read. I first read this book when I was in middle school, which wouldn't be surprising if it contributed in my cognitive growth development back then. I still remember how this book made me feel confident in myself, that there is nothing wrong with being different from everyone else. Junior, the character in the story, had such an odd quirky character. As a kid, I heavily admired Junior, with how assertive, optimistic, and how unconcerned he was with other's opinions about him. Despite how he was living through a poor, low income life, I admired how optimistic he was in achieving his goals. His character was portrayed as one who doesn't take life so seriously, who is content with where he is, and is patient in achieving his goals. His story deals with the issue of being a person of color in a predominantly white school, and how he deals with the financial disparity and social class that comes with it. This book is the type of book that makes you feel good about yourself. It contains so many inspiring messages that can connect with individuals in all ages. This is a type of book that you would read repeatedly the older you get, and it would leave you feeling different each time. Such a great book.
