A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini
A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini has got to be one of the most devastating stories I've ever read. This book has made me bawl so hard last night, I had to tell myself to catch and steady my breathing. It tell tales the unfortunate circumstances of innocent individuals living in a warfare zone in Afghanistan. I felt so bad for what Mariam and Laila has gone through in their lives, how they simply wanted to attain happiness in their lives. Being a woman in Afghanistan that they are, the story unfolds the inequality and injustice that this specific gender has to go through. I extremely felt bad for Mariam the most, who never wanted anything but a normal life, and instead experienced unfairness and sadness since she was a little kid. Despite the sad and difficult life that Mariam had, she was still kind and selfless to those that she loved. Her life experience has what made me bawl my eyes out, as I desperately desired and rooted for her to find freedom and happiness as much as she did. And with that, it made me wonder how much individuals in Afghanistan had to go through with the same experience as Mariam and Laila did. So many innocent lives are being sacrificed over the consequences and selfish desires of corrupt individuals.
I truly admire how Khaled Hosseini writes stories to describe the uncircumstances that people in Afghanistan have to go through. He raises awareness for the struggles that these people have to go through with his books, and he even raised a fundraiser to especially help women and children of Afghanistan to help assist them with what they need. He is truly a great individual that inspires a lot of individuals.
